The New York Times reported (in early November) that a “militia in eastern Congo recently recruited dozens of children to become soldiers… and some of these children may now be fighting on the front lines.” Tragically, according to the report, the children had been recruited at a school and “many of them had already been child soldiers and were in the process of reintegrating with their families.”
Heavily armed militia groups recently attacked a school in Congo to recruit child soldiers, says a Save the Children report released in London.
These children should be protected at all costs. Former child soldiers that are in the process of DDR programs should not be subjected to further trauma.
